Student Safety

Student safety is the number one priority of the St. Joseph Public Schools.

We strive to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for every student, every day. Listed in this section are number of policies and helpful links concerning students and their safety while at school.

Drills & Reporting:

Each school is required to implement 5 Fire Drills, 2 Tornado Drills, and 3 Lock-Down Drills.

The Lock-Down drills are coordinated with local Public Safety Departments. We work together to make sure, we have a clear plan to get each child to safety, should the need arise.

Student Crime Stoppers:

If you have any information about a crime committed in, around, or to someone on school property, or if you've heard someone talk about a having a weapon in school, tell your parents and then call 1-800-342-STOP (1-800-342-7867). Your information will be confidential and you don't have to give your name. Student Crime Stoppers does not have caller ID.

A confidential way to report threats to student safety and school personnel.

Also, you can anonymously report specific threats of imminent school violence or other suspicious conduct to the School Violence Hotline at 1-800-815-TIPS (1-800-815-8477). This hotline is mandated by the Michigan Legislature.

ANY RISK OF IMMEDIATE HARM SHOULD BE REPORTED TO 911 IMMEDIATELY.

Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry (PSOR)

We often hear from parents and police that a registered sex offender has moved into our community. Registered sex offenders must register with the state police when they change residence and, may not reside within 1000 ft. of a school. If you would like to be notified each time a registered sex offender moves into our zip code, you need to go to www.mipsor.state.mi.us web site and register for the email notification.
